What a Great year!
I feel like this painting by Edvard Munch says a lot of the emotions I am currently experencing; shock, amazement, joy, saddness....etc.etc.. But overall a sense of amazement. Looking back on the year that is the emotion that comes through more and more, and I feel that is am emotion that our God draws out of us, amazement. I am amazed at the things He has done and I am continually amazed at the things He will do. Thank you for sharing with us the journey that you are on in discovering who Jesus is and what He means in your life. In my estimation there is no greater journey and anything of more value. Like you for sure and look forward to seeing each of you soon!

Doulos/Bond-Servant
“Do nothing from selfishness or empty conceit, but with humility of mind regard one another as more important than yourselves; do not merely look out for your own personal interests, but also for the interests of others. Have this attitude in yourselves which was also in Christ Jesus, who, although He existed in the form of God, did not regard equality with God a thing to be grasped, but he emptied Himself, taking the form of a bond-servant, and being made in the likeness of men. Being found in appearance as a man, He humbled Himself by becoming obedient to the point of death, even death on a cross."
The idea of a Bond-servant, is back in Jesus' time families would have servants, and by law the servant was to be set free after six years of service to the family. It was at this time that the servant faced a decision, to take hold of the life of freedom that was granted him or to look at the family which he/she had been serving over the last six years and offer him/herself to become a bond-servant to them for life. You ask "Why in the world would anyone want to remain a servant?" It's a great question and what we can gather is that the family which the servant served loved and cared for him not as a servant but as family, causing the servant to choose to stay with his family, fore going his life of freedom, to a life of service. By his choice. This is that same decision Jesus made in Philippians, does Jesus as God hold to his rights as God, or does he give up everything to be with the ones that He loves and would give his life for? The answer seems clear. Doulos.
